iBoysoft Data Recovery Free is intended to recover lost or deleted files. The program has a friendly interface. As most similar programs, the whole process is done with the help of a wizard, so there is nothing much to learn, even if this is your first time using the tool.
The program can recover practically any type of file, including pictures, songs and documents. It can automatically detect local disks as well as inserted USB storage devices. Likewise, it shows information about the drives, such as file system, total capacity and used space. Fortunately, two scan modes are supported. One is fast, and it is what I recommend choosing for most of situations. However, if this mode fails, you should try running a deep scan, which takes considerably more time but provides more accurate results.
When the scanning is done, the program shows a list of all the files, both present and deleted, together with info about them. Logically, the list may be quite long, but for this purpose, there is the possibility of conducting searches. Good news is that some of the file types can be actually previewed, though there is a limitation regarding their size.
Next step is selecting the desired files and picking the target folder, an operation that can be done in batches. At this point, you are advised to use a drive different from the one storing the files to prevent some of the data from being overwritten in the process.
In general, while iBoysoft Data Recovery is definitely not one of the best tools of its kind, it can do its job adequately and therefore deserves a try. Yet, if you are willing to attempt more complex recoveries, you can try other programs, or maybe one of the three other editions, called Home, Professional and Technician, which have varying prices and features.
